ATHENS, Ga. – (April 24, 2020) – In an effort to reach out and help the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, attorneys and staff at Athens law firm Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, P.C. collected and donated $5,155 through online and in-person donations for the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia.

The firm has been an integral part of the Northeast Georgia community for nearly 40 years. During the COVID 19 Pandemic, the firm has practiced social distancing and all but a few vital employees have worked remotely. The firm made a business decision at the beginning of the pandemic to keep all 107 attorneys and staff fully employed.

The firm presented a check to the Food Bank on April 24.

For every $1 donated to the Food Bank, it can distribute four meals to help feed the hungry. The Northeast Georgia Food Bank distributes more than 11 million pounds of food to a 14-county service area through more than 225 partner organizations each year.

As an additional effort to show its appreciation to those who take care of us, BBGA served 150 boxed lunches to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department on Tuesday. The firm also served boxed lunches to Fire Stations #1 and #3 last week.

“As a firm serving the Northeast Georgia community, we feel it is important that we give back to the community in times of need,” said BBGA managing partner Henry Garrard. “Helping to make food available to individuals in need through the Northeast Georgia Food Bank is a good way to make sure that food gets to the right people. Additionally, people often forget about what our law enforcement officers sacrifice to take care of us and we wanted to say thank you. The fire department is there for us in many ways and we wanted to recognize them as well. We will all get through these difficult times together, and I believe we will be stronger at the end of it.”
