Mary M. Russell

Mary Matthews Russell is a personal injury attorney at Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, P.C.

Mary was born and raised in Athens and attended the University of Georgia for her undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 2014. Mary went on to attend law school at UGA, obtaining her Juris Doctorate in 2019. During law school, Mary served as the Chief Investigator of the UGA Law Honor Court and an Articles Editor for the Georgia Law Review. 

Following law school, Mary worked for a civil defense firm in Brunswick, Georgia where she represented defendants in a wide variety of matters, including personal injury and premises liability cases. She defended hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare providers against alleged professional negligence. 

Mary returned to Athens to join Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley in June of 2022.  Her practice at BBGA includes medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, premises liability, and other personal injury cases. 

Mary currently serves on the Board of Directors for Brightpaths, a non-profit, community-based organization whose mission is to prevent all forms of child abuse and neglect in Athens and the surrounding counties.  Mary is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Georgia School of Law, where she teaches a course on medical malpractice.  

Mary lives in Athens with her husband and their two dogs.  In her free time, Mary enjoys hiking, cooking, and visiting family on the Georgia coast.
